The School of Art and Design is devoted to creative excellence. To achieve that goal, we provide dedicated spaces for the various disciplines. Our classrooms and labs are designed to accommodate the discipline-specific lab and studio work for each area. Our commitment to excellence means that we regularly update our facilities to ensure state-of-the-art learning spaces for our students.

The Applied Arts Building provides unique facilities for each of the six studio art areas that are conducive to the specific needs of each discipline. Studio spaces are flexible and adaptable given the needs of the class. Extensive open studio and lab hours allow access to these spaces outside of class periods.

Design studios, labs and specialty computer labs are housed in both the Applied Arts Building and the adjoining Micheels Hall with unique facilities for each area that facilitate learning for each design discipline. Extensive open lab hours allow access to these spaces outside of class periods.
Galleries
Interactive 360-degree Gallery Tour
The Furlong Gallery at UW-Stout exhibits both professional and student artwork, as well as regional, national, and international exhibitions. With two separate spaces, the gallery can stage two shows at once and has an average of five to nine exhibits per year.
Gallery 209 at UW-Stout offers student artists the opportunity to present their works professionally. Studio Art majors exhibit their capstone work in this gallery each semester in small group shows. Throughout the year, other students exhibit a wide variety of work during 1-3 week exhibits.
Materials & Process Lab
Interactive 360-degree Process Lab Tour
The Materials & Process Lab is designated for use by students enrolled in art and design courses, who are working on class-related projects. The lab is equipped with a wide variety of woodworking and metalwork tools and related equipment. Students also utilize the Fab Lab on campus for 3D printing, laser cutting/engraving, and other specialty projects.

Computer Lab
Through the eStout program, UW-Stout is a laptop campus. All students are provided with a laptop computer and software appropriate to their field of study. State of the art computer labs in Applied Arts and Micheels Hall provide the latest, industry standard hardware and software to students in BFA programs.
Print Lab
The Print Lab houses a variety of printers, including archival quality and large format options, for grayscale and color printing class projects. The facility is supervised during all open hours by either the lab supervisor or work-study assistants. Additional services are available at the MSC Service Center.
