Hi there! I'm Lacey and I grew up on a small farm in Central Wisconsin. I was a first-generation college student and am a Stout Proud grad! I returned to UW-Stout professionally in 2019 and love being back at my alma mater helping students pursue their passions and work toward their goal of attaining a college degree.
Advice for a new student:
There is so much more to your college experience than your major. Meet people, participate in student groups, and step outside your comfort zone as often as possible. THOSE are the things that are going to make your college experience a GREAT one!
College Major/Minor:
I earned my bachelor’s degree in Psychology with a minor in Human Development & Family Studies from UW-Stout. I also have a Master of Science degree in College Counseling & Student Development from St. Cloud State University.
Why did you choose your major?
I started as a Graphic Design major but really missed the human interest and interaction with people. I knew I wanted to go into some type of helping profession to put my creativity and communication skillsets to use. Psychology was the perfect blend of those things.
What do you love most about UW-Stout?
Oh gosh, so many things! The people, the supportive atmosphere, the relationships I developed with my professors as a student, the beautiful and charming community, etc. I think what I love most is the size. The campus is large enough to have lots of opportunities but small enough to allow students to get connected and be involved with many interest areas.
My favorite thing to do in Menomonie is…
I love hanging out at the many coffee shops in town. The Raw Deal was my hangout at as a college student and continues to be my favorite coffee shop in town.
A random fact about me...
When I was a student, I participated in a Humanistic Buddhist Monastic Life Program at a Buddhist monastery in Taiwan. This included a week-long silent meditation retreat where I didn't speak for 7-days.
