Following is a Q&A with one of the 1,375 students who received a diploma May 6 at UW-Stout.

Name: Holly Solomon
Hometown: Schofield
Major: Digital marketing technology

Awards, honors: Chancellor’s Awards

Why did you choose UW-Stout? I originally started my college career at UW-Eau Claire in marketing but transferred to UW-Stout for the online digital marketing program. This flexible program and dynamic emphasis on the digital side of marketing piqued my interest and enabled me to learn what the industry is demanding.

What are the biggest challenges you faced in earning your degree? Striking a balance between work, school and personal life is challenging for many, myself included. However, these challenges develop vital soft skills like prioritization, time management and organization, so it’s been a positive learning experience.

What stands out among your college experiences? How interactive the online courses were. All of my professors were so involved, whether it was posting online videos or personally setting up Skype for business calls. They truly care about the success of the students. Additionally, it’s been such a pleasure to work and collaborate with other online students.

What’s next? I was hired as a digital marketing specialist by D.R. Horton in the Twin Cities prior to graduation and plan to continue working there. I’m excited for what the future holds as I grow in my digital marketing career and am thankful for the educational experience I’ve received at UW-Stout. Learning never ends if there is a spirit of curiosity and an attitude of action.
