The University of Wisconsin-Stout Discovery Center will host four free Leadership Speakers Series virtual events featuring regional, national and international experts with a goal of sparking energy, growth, innovation and excitement for organizations.
The events are thanks to partial funding from EDA CARES grant ED20CHI3070030 that supports innovation leadership’s pandemic response.
On Thursday, Nov. 11, Rhonda Askeland, executive coach, facilitator and performance consultant at AskRhon Consulting, Irvine, Calif., will speak on Teams from 10 to 11:30 a.m. on What Do I Do Now? Career Strategies for a Remote World. Askeland will talk about resilience, focus and self-management.
The Supply Chain, the Pandemic and Ethics: How Were Industries Affected and How Did They Respond? is from 10 to 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 17, on Teams. Panelists will include Chris Conard, of Bloomer, president of PMI, LLC; Mark Hatzenbeller, senior account executive of WMEP Manufacturing Solutions in Madison and a UW-Stout alum; Andrew Swanson, UW-Stout assistant professor of economics; and Kim Zagorski, UW-Stout associate professor of political science.
Dane Deutsch, CyberEthics lecturer at UW-Stout; Michelle Gishkowsky, IT program manager with Mayo Clinic; and Cheyne Taylor, senior technical writer with JMA Resources and a UW-Stout alum, from 9 to 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, Dec. 2, will speak on Working From Home: What Privacy Issues Arise in Our Remote Workspaces? The panel will talk about remote work environments, cybersecurity and privacy and the ethics of the home office.
Leading Through Failure in a State of Flux is by Sue Padernacht, CEO and founder of Ncline Leadership Strategies, a management consulting firm. The session is from 10:30 a.m. to noon on Thursday, Dec. 9, on Teams. While popular literature, podcasts and blogs espouse "celebrating and learning from failure," they provide little guidance to address beliefs about failure or tools for leaders to respond effectively to mistakes in the workplace.
Seminar on dealing with emotional responses
On Tuesday, Dec. 14, from 9 to 11 a.m. Marya Wilson, director of the UW-Stout Leadership Institute, will lead Managing and Transforming Difficult Emotions. The seminar costs $200 and will focus on strategies for effectively dealing with emotional responses, both one’s own and others’.
Wilson, an assistant professor in the operations and management department, brings first-hand knowledge to the learning experience and an understanding of the emotional processes that drive behaviors and create individual and team success. She has a bachelor’s in psychology, a master’s in management technology, a master’s in human development and a Ph.D. in human and organizational systems. In addition, She is working to complete her International Coaching Federation certification.
