National Volunteer and Earth Week events

Students collected trash on campus
April 19, 2021

National Volunteer Week is April 18-24, and I would like to take this opportunity to recognize the volunteer efforts that are occurring on campus.  I also hope that this week serves as a reminder to us all to seek out new opportunities for voluntarism in support of the Menomonie and surrounding communities.

While National Volunteer Week is recognized this week, I know that for many of our faculty, staff, and students, their efforts to give back to organizations and causes that inspire them occur year-round.

Despite more limited opportunities due to COVID-19, many of our student organizations and athletics teams have been actively participating in volunteer events throughout the year including food drives, clean-up events, sponsoring families in need, and coordinating blood drives. While this is certainly not a comprehensive list of all the efforts occurring amongst our faculty, staff, and students, I want to thank our students for their leadership and dedication in these efforts and thank all members of our university community who have volunteered their time this year.

In addition to National Volunteer Week, Earth Day is recognized on Thursday, April 22nd.  In honor of Earth Day, Stout will host a series of events throughout the week. I encourage everyone to consider participating in these events and to commit to the ongoing support of university sustainability efforts.

If we all take small steps in our commitment to voluntarism and sustainability, we will initiate a lasting impact on our community and our environment.

In Stout Pride,
