Following is a Q&A with one of the 749 students who received a diploma Dec. 16 at UW-Stout.

Name: Andrea White
Hometown: Chippewa Falls
Major: Studio art; concentration in contemporary art jewelry
Awards, honors: Graduating with honors, research grant from UW-Stout Research Services, Best in Show for 2017 end of year student art exhibit, work accepted in exhibitions in Lithuania, Indiana and by the Society of North American Goldsmiths.

Why did you choose UW-Stout? It provided a robust art program in the Midwest.

What are the biggest obstacles you faced in earning your degree? Time was my biggest obstacle. There will never be enough time to do everything that I want to do all at once.

What stands out among your college experiences? The community in the Applied Arts Building. The instructors and my fellow students have been inspiring and supportive. We truly have something special in Applied Arts.

What’s next? I will be working to build my jewelry business, first online and then likely in St. Paul.
