Two major student productions, a fashion show and a musical, will highlight UW-Stout’s Family Weekend Friday, April 6, to Sunday, April 8.

The annual Fashion Without Fabric show will feature student runway models showing off about 100 unique designs by nearly 200 School of Art and Design students.

The show begins at 8 p.m. Saturday in the Great Hall of the Memorial Student Center. Tickets are available online or at the service desk in the student center, 715-232-1122. Tickets for the event typically sell out.

The theme is Bodies of Work. Students will base their designs, which can be made of anything but fabric, on the works of 27 contemporary sculptors. Past designs, for example, have been made from materials like bottle caps, feathers, vinyl records, cardboard and plastic.

This year's show displays functional designs inspired by visceral interpretations from sculptors with a variety of techniques and backgrounds. The students are very excited to show off their hard work April 7,” said Brynn Wildenauer, of Minneapolis, an industrial design major who is the show coordinator.

The musical, “Big Fish,” by University Theatre, features a cast of nearly 20 students. The show is based on the movie and Broadway play.

“Big Fish” opens a six-performance run at 7:30 p.m. Friday in Harvey Hall Theatre. Another performance is at 7:30 p.m. Saturday. Additional performances are Thursday to Saturday, April 12-14.
