Annual Manufacturing Advantage Conference is Oct. 10

Innovative ideas, effective strategies and the latest in technology will be presented at the 11th annual Manufacturing Advantage Conference and Tech Showcase from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 10, at UW-Stout’s Memorial Student Center.

A manufacturing representative explains a product to an attendee at UW-Stout’s 2017 Manufacturing Advantage Conference and Tech Showcase.Presentation and discussion topics include developing smart automation strategy, Industry 4.0, maximizing technology to aid in recruitment, linking industry with today’s students and how to become part of the state’s supply chain marketplace with companies like Foxconn.

The main speaker will be computer scientist Patricia Toth from the Computer Security Division of the National Institute of Standards and Technology Manufacturing Extension Partnership. She will discuss the NIST framework for improving critical infrastructure cybersecurity. Small business cybersecurity is one of her specialty areas.

In 2017, UW-Stout was named a Center of Academic Excellence in Cyber Defense, one of about 120 universities nationally, by the National Security Agency.

The conference is hosted by UW-Stout’s Manufacturing Outreach Center and the university’s Professional Education Programs and Services. The Manufacturing Outreach Center works with small and midsize manufacturers in 33 counties.

Along with UW-Stout, conference sponsors include the Geo Group Corporation, Huebsch, Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation, Wisconsin Indianhead Technical College and Wisconsin Technical College System.
