About Me

I was born and raised in the Chippewa Valley, but I take great pride in calling the Lac Courte Oreilles Ojibwe Reservation (Northern WI) my home. With a passion for building community and getting to know other cultures, I enjoyed living in different places while in college. I completed my generals in Los Angeles and then moved to the Twin Cities where I finished my B.S. in Psychology with a minor in Public Health. I'm really happy to be back in the Chippewa Valley and doing some of my favorite things like spending time in nature, volunteering, and playing sand volleyball.

Q&A with Alyse

Advice for a new student:
Find good habits and routines that support your mental health and help you prioritize sleep! Both can have a huge impact on you as a student. For example, you might find that studying for 2 hours when you're well rested is just as effective (if not more) than studying for 4 hours when you’re sleep deprived. Or by doing things such as moving your body or taking deep breaths, you can help regulate your body, reducing stress’ impact.

College Major/Minor:
Bachelor of Science in Psychology, minor in Public Health from the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities.

Why did you choose your major?
I’ve always been a big people-person and knew I was going to work with communities. Studying psychology helped me better understand how intersectional problems impacted individuals and groups of people. Combining that with a Public Health minor, I learned different ways to support others on both small and large scales. It also helped me better understand myself and grow as a person.

What do you love most about Stout?
When I walk the hallways of our buildings, I see student work displayed proudly. It’s great to see the excitement students have about learning and the accomplishment they feel when creating.

My favorite thing to do in Menomonie is…
Shop and eat local. There are so many shops that support our local economy around the area, how could you not?

A random fact about me…
I’m allergic to dogs but I love them!
