Take Your Education Further in Law.

Ask a group of lawyers what they major they pursued in college, and you'll realize there's no one path to pursuing a law degree. The American Bar Association will tell you that successful law students (and accomplished attorneys) come from all walks of life and educational backgrounds.

There is no single set of courses or exclusive list of degrees that will get you into law school, but whatever program you pursue, the general rule thumb is “to fill your undergraduate curriculum with broad, diverse, and challenging courses.” And that makes a polytechnic education the perfect fit!

Develop the Core Competencies to Succeed in Law School.

Among the knowledge, skills and experiences that law schools generally look for (in addition to your LSAC scores), you'll note many on the list align directly with the competencies you'll build in our Stout Core classes—problem solving, critical thinking, writing and editing, oral communication and listening, research, etc.

Your polytechnic education starts with 40 foundational credits in communication, critical thinking, ethics, analysis and reasoning.

So if your ultimate aim is law school, even if you don't know what kind of lawyer you plan to be, a little planning will make sure you cover the more specific recommended areas through your coursework.

Student Testimonials

"APSS classes helped me A LOT in law school, especially my legal writing courses."

"During my first semester in law school, I found I was just as prepared as my Ivy-league peers. The APSS program gave me what I needed to succeed in law school and in the legal profession."

"I think the biggest edge I have over my law school peers is that I got to experience my professors believing in and working for a social good and that passion is now instilled in my desire to go into public interest law."

"Along with studying sociology, anthropology, economics, and history, students in the APSS program will become well-versed in academic writing, peer-reviewing, data analysis, and critical thinking. The combination of these skills transferred into my law courses. I was able to identify case issues and approach them in multidisciplinary ways. While some of my peers struggled with legal research and writing, a cornerstone of the legal field, I was able to adapt and apply my undergraduate skills to meet the expectation of my legal writing professors. Further, my experience in data analysis and academic writing helped me get a research internship during my first semester."
