On-Campus Health and Safety
Living on-campus provides students with access to campus resources, staff, and peers to promote your health and success as a UW-Stout student. We are committed to keeping the residence halls a healthy and safe space for residents to live and learn, our shared effort to hold ourselves and our peers accountable to the guidance and protocols outlined below will help us achieve our goal.
By moving into your assigned room in University Housing, you understand and acknowledge that there are risks associated with communal living and, as in any shared living environment, those risks include potential exposure to contagious viruses, including the coronavirus. Residents are expected to fully comply with the expectations, protocols and guidelines outlined in this document. Failure to do so may result in disciplinary action, however every reasonable effort will be made to gain voluntary cooperation before engaging in the formal disciplinary process.
We hope to continue to provide you with the most current information we have available. This page is designed to offer on-campus residents, and their families and friends, a better picture of what they can expect from University Housing and living on-campus. Please continue to check this website and your university e-mail daily.

Isolation in Place
Guidance for COVID-19 positive individuals and well roommate(s).
Students who test positive for COVID-19 are encouraged to isolate off-campus.
If this is not possible, these are some guidelines for isolating with a well-roommate. It is important to remember that students living with roommates who become ill with many different communicable diseases remain in shared living areas.
Both Roommates:
- Mask with a good quality mask when you are in the room together.
- Use ventilating fans or air purifiers to increase air circulation.
- Clean frequently touched surfaces (door knob, light switch, tables, faucets, etc) daily.
- Use your own hand and face towels
- If you share a bathroom, clean sinks often. Use a tote so personal items such as toothbrushes are not touching shared surfaces.
- Do not invite any guests into your room during isolation.
- Move your beds away as far as possible from each other. Consider sleeping facing away from one another even sleeping in opposite directions (head to toe) to create extra distance.
- Wash your hands frequently, especially after contacting shared surfaces.
Roommate with COVID-19:
- Use a single bathroom if it is an option.
- Follow the CDC guidance for ending isolation. Isolation and Precautions for People with COVID-19 | CDC
- Contact Student Health Service for questions on how to treat your symptoms 7152321314.
- If you live in a residence hall, order recovery meals from dining using the Transact Mobile Ordering App. You will need a roommate or friend to pick the meals up for you.
- Email your professors regarding your COVID-19 status.
Well Roommate:
- You may still go to class and activities.
- Minimize time spent in your room. Take advantage of other study spaces on campus.
- Test frequently. Best time to test is 5 days after exposure or with any symptoms. The front desk of residence halls and the Dean of Students office have free home COVID-19 test kits while supplies last.
- Mask if you develop any symptoms. If you test positive, follow the CDC guidance. Isolation and Precautions for People with COVID-19 | CDC
