This year we are looking for Head Counselors, Counselors, Teaching Assistants, and a Photographer. Learn more about these positions below.
Summer STEAM Experience
The Summer STEAM Experience Camp runs June 9-13, June 23-27, and July 14-18, 2024, with unique tracks and experiences in each week. Students entering grades 9 to 12 in fall 2024 are invited to explore career paths with UW-Stout faculty experts in a campus setting.
Junior STEAM Experience
The Junior STEAM Experience Camp runs June 16-20, and July 7-11 2024, and is for students entering grades 6 to 8 in fall 2024. Each day students will learn about a chosen track with hands-on activities, breaks, and time for fun activities.
Head Counselors (Position Filled)
Head Counselors play an integral role in creating a fun and educational experience for the STEAM campers.
Head Counselors are responsible for the following:
- Leading the counselors during activities and training. Training is scheduled for June 8.
- Relaying messages to the Camp Director.
- Acting as a counselor with its duties as well.
- Head Counselors will provide input on camp activities, campers, staff, and general camp-wide issues during a daily counselor meeting.
- Head Counselors cannot also work as teaching assistants.
We are looking for people (18+) with previous camp experience and a wide range of skills who can work collaboratively and form connections. Must be available to work during the spring semester. Pay is $750 plus room and board for the week of camp.

Counselor
Responsible for:
- Supervise campers during the entirety of the camp.
- Work closely with your team of 10-12 campers.
- Serve as a role model, a mentor, and a leader.
- Serve as the health supervisor to your campers. (Training will be provided.)
- Oversee the safety of the group.
- Ensure campers are at their scheduled activity on time.
- Assist with planning and implementing designated camp activities as a team (e.g. volleyball, board games and crafts).
- Attend camp counselor training scheduled for June 8.
- Provide support as a mentor to encourage campers to engage in all activities.
We are looking for people (18+) with experience leading activities and who enjoy working with teens. Necessary safety training will be provided. Option to work for one or all weeks. Pay is $600 for each week. Room and board is included at UW-Stout, $75 raise for returning counselors (3-year cap). For counselors who need accommodations between camps, housing will be provided on campus.

Teaching Assistants
Responsible for:
- Assist and work closely with your faculty instructor - must have experience in that topic. See these pages for the list of tracks: Summer STEAM Experience and Junior STEAM Experience.
- Supervise campers during track instruction.
- Respond to student questions throughout the day.
- Serve as a role model, mentor, and leader.
- Report to the Outreach Program Manager any health or behavioral issues.
Time requirements are Monday-Thursday, June 9-13, June 16-20, June 23-27, July 7-11, and July 14-18 from 8:30 a.m.-4:15 p.m.
Pay is $300. For teaching assistants who also want to be counselors, the pay will be $800.
