File Your FAFSA by February 15
To ensure you're considered for our full range of admitted student scholarships, including need-based and degree-specific awards, make sure to file your FAFSA by Februrary 15.
Incoming Student Scholarships
In recognition of outstanding academic achievement, UW-Stout awards more than 400 merit-based scholarships to incoming students each year through a competitive scholarship award process. Starting in 2024, new first-year students who have been admitted to UW-Stout are automatically considered for merit-based scholarships.
Eligibility Requirements
The selective $5,000 Stout Scholars Scholarship is renewable for an additional three years, as long as the student maintains eligibility, for a total value of $20,000. Students who meet eligibility requirements will be invited by email to attend a Stout Scholars interview in February and three outstanding students will be awarded! You are eligible for consideration if you meet these criteria:
- Cumulative GPA of 3.67 or higher
- ACT composite score of 27 or higher or SAT total score of at least 1280*
- Recent high school graduate admitted to UW-Stout as a first-year, full-time, degree-seeking student for fall semester
- Enrolled as an on-campus student (online/customized instruction students are ineligible)
- Must be admitted, and updated credentials must be received, by the first Monday in February
*Although our current admission criteria does not require a test score submission at this time, this scholarship does REQUIRE a test score on file by the first Monday in February.
Students who participate in the Stout Scholars interview process and are not awarded the Stout Scholars Scholarship will be awarded a non-renewable $2,000 Stout Promise Scholarship.
Eligibility Requirements
The $3,000 Out-of-State Scholarship is a non-resident tuition waiver, renewable for an additional three years, as long as the student maintains eligibility, for a total value of $12,000. No additional application is required. You are eligible for consideration if you meet these criteria:
- New student starting at Stout Fall 2024 and beyond.
- Cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher
- Transfer student OR recent high school graduate admitted to UW-Stout as a first-year, full-time, degree-seeking student for fall semester
- Enrolled as an on-campus student (online/customized instruction students are ineligible)
- Must be a resident of another state with non-resident status (Note: Students from IL, IN, IA, KS, MI, MN, MO, NE, ND, OH, and SD are ineligible, as they qualify for reduced tuition through reciprocity or other waiver programs).
Eligibility Requirements
The $1,000 Honors College Scholarship is renewable for an additional three years, for a total value of $4,000 (as long as the student maintains eligibility and university funding remains available). Fifteen awards are available to select first-year students entering the Honors College. You are eligible for consideration if you meet these criteria:
- Recent high school graduate admitted to UW-Stout as a first-year, full-time, degree-seeking student for fall semester, contingent on acceptance to the Honors College
- Enrolled as an on-campus student (online/customized instruction students are ineligible)
- Complete the Honors College Application by the first Monday in February
Eligibility Requirements
The Transfer Student Scholarship is a $1,000 non-renewable scholarship. Fifty scholarship awards are available for new entering transfer students. No additional scholarship application is required, you are eligible for consideration if you meet these criteria:
- Cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher from the most recent school attended.
- Transferring a minimum of 24 credits, but no more than 90 credits.
- Enrolled as a full-time, degree-seeking student in an on-campus program (online/customized instruction students are ineligible).
- First-generation college student (neither parent/guardian earned a 4-year college degree).
*Priority is given to students who are admitted by the first Monday in April (Fall semester) or by the first Monday in October (Spring semester). Additional scholarship awarding may continue after the priority deadline, pending availability of funds.
The Phi Theta Kappa Scholarship is offered only to qualified students transferring directly from two-year colleges for a Fall semester start. View eligibility criterion, application form, and instructions: PTK Transfer Scholarship (PDF)

UW-Stout Foundation Scholarships
The University Foundation provides scholarships to help UW-Stout students finance their education. Complete a single, universal application to be considered for all scholarships in which you qualify. Get started by logging in with your UW-Stout Microsoft account. Your application will populate with information from your student record. Then you simply need to complete any missing information and submit. It's that easy!
Application Available: The scholarship application opens annually in mid-October
Deadline: First Monday in February (Note: To be eligible for need-based scholarships, be sure to also file your FAFSA by February 15.)
