In today’s fast-paced and increasingly complex professional environment, maintaining clear ethical boundaries is more important than ever. The pressures faced by helping professionals—whether in counseling, therapy, social work, or related fields—can lead to challenging situations where personal and professional boundaries are tested. Ensuring that these boundaries are respected not only protects clients but also safeguards the well-being and integrity of the professional.
This training offers an exploration of boundary violations and the impact of impairment, both of which can significantly affect the quality of care. With a focus on practical solutions and ethical frameworks, the training aims to provide professionals with the tools they need to navigate these critical issues confidently, while meeting continuing education requirements.
Learning Objectives:
- Attendees will discriminate between boundary blurring, boundary extending, and boundary violations in the helping professions.
- Attendees will learn strategies for responding to boundary concerns in self and others (i.e. colleagues).
- Attendees will refresh the concept of impairment to be able to specify signs of impairment in self and others, ethical considerations, and strategies for response.
- Attendees will gain insight into their own signals for distress as a means of preventing impairment.
