UW-Stout offers various employment opportunities tailored to fit student schedules, including roles in University Dining, Housing, the Sports & Fitness Center, and other administrative offices across campus.

Federal Work Study

Work study is a need-based financial aid award.

  • Once you are hired, a work schedule is developed with your employer to best fit your class schedule, possibly including nights and weekends.
  • A paycheck is disbursed (by direct deposit) every two weeks for the hours you work. You will receive bi-weekly electronic earnings statements via your UW-Stout e-mail account.

State Payroll

On-campus jobs open to all degree-seeking students, no financial aid or FAFSA needed.

Graduate Assistantships

Graduate Assistantships (GAs) are paid positions at UW-Stout where you also have the opportunity to gain valuable professional experience.

  • You are eligible for a GA position if you meet all of the following criteria: admitted to a graduate degree program (dual-level and non-degree seeking students are not eligible), enrolled in at least six graduate credits each term, and maintain a GPA of at least 3.0 each term.
  • GAs do not include a tuition waiver. However, non-resident students who hold at least a 0.33 FTE position are not charged the non-resident portion of tuition.
  • GAs are considered a form of financial aid

Grow, Persist, Succeed (GPS) Program

The GPS program is a student-focused, skill-building program aimed at developing career readiness competencies through on-campus positions.
