Join Incoming Student CONNECT
When: After account activation
Start meeting other new students and connect with others who share your interests. Many students join CONNECT early to start building connections and to find a roommate.
How to join:

- Log in with your UW-Stout credentials. Guest access will not display content.

Complete Your Housing Reservation
When: After account activation
You’ll receive an email from University Housing with instructions to reserve your residence hall space in the Housing Gateway. Complete the steps and sign your contract to secure your place.
Room selection times are assigned based on when your contract is completed—the earlier you finish, the better your chances of selecting your preferred space.
Prepare for Room Selection
When: Early March
You’ll receive information to your UW-Stout email about how to prepare for room selection, including:
- Roommate search tools
- Living Communities
- Room options
Select Your Room
When: Late June / Early July
Follow the instructions sent to your UW-Stout email to select your room and roommate in the Housing Gateway.
Schedule Your Move-In
When: Early August
Select your move-in date and time in the Housing Gateway.
Move to Campus
When: Move-in Week
- Fall 2026: August 22–30
- Fall 2027: August 29 – September 5
Move into your residence hall on your scheduled date and time. You can remain on campus after move-in, but most students leave and return for orientation.
File Your FAFSA
When: Starting October 1
Priority Deadline: February 15
Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) to be considered for financial aid, including grants, loans, and some scholarships.
To be considered for need-based UW-Stout Foundation scholarships, you must submit your FAFSA by February 15.
Use School Code: 003915 when completing your FAFSA. You may receive follow-up communication from Financial Aid if additional information is needed.
- Fall 2026: Submit the 2026–27 FAFSA
- Fall 2027: Submit the 2027-28 FAFSA (available October 1, 2026)

UW-Stout Foundation Scholarships
When: Starting Mid-October
Deadline: February 1
Apply for additional scholarships through the UW-Stout Foundation.
Sign in with your UW-Stout Microsoft Account. Your application will prefill with your student record—submit one application to be considered for all available awards.
Incoming Student Scholarships

Minnesota Students: Apply for Tuition Reciprocity
When: Starting March 1
Register online with the Minnesota Office of Higher Education to receive a reduced tuition rate at UW-Stout.
Sign Up for First-Year Registration & Orientation (FYRO)
When: Starting early February
Check your UW-Stout email for your FYRO invitation and sign up for your preferred date.
Complete UW Placement Testing
When: Starting March 15
Deadline: 1 week before scheduled FYRO date
Complete placement testing at least one week before your orientation session. Students with transfer credits for math & English may not need to test.

Request Final Official Transcripts
When: After graduation (high school) / after final grades post (college)
Send final high school transcripts showing your graduation date and any final college or university transcripts to the Admissions Office.
Send Score Reports for Test Credit
When: As soon as your score report is available
- If you earned college credit in high school (AP, IB, dual enrollment, etc.), review how your credits may transfer to UW-Stout.
- If you have military or standardized test credit (CLEP, DANTES, etc.), explore options to earn credit for prior learning.
Sign the Student Account Contract
You must complete the Student Account Contract before registering for classes. This is required for Fall and Spring enrollment but not for Winterm or Summer terms.
