The Dietetic Internship program includes supervised practice rotations.

The Dietetic Internship program includes 1000 hours of supervised practice. The following rotations are required:

Preceptor Requirements

Site Locations


Management – 5 weeks

One to two sites,

each must serve a

minimum of 60 meals per day.

Foodservice director,

Certified culinary professional,

Certified dietary manager


Acute care

Hospitals, long-term care, school foodservice (private, public, college)

Community Nutrition – 7 weeks

Minimum two sites may have up to three. One must be WIC, and one must be with older adults, such as senior meals.

RDN preferred but not required.

Registered Nurse, certified health educator, appropriately degreed professional

Community-based centers, senior centers, Area Agencies on Aging, Extension, WIC, public health agencies, SNAP.


Clinical Nutrition 1

10-11 weeks in-patient


One to two sites.

Must cover

Registered Dietitian required

Acute care hospital, long-term care.

Clinical Nutrition 2

4-5 weeks outpatient

One site

Registered Dietitian required

Clinic, private practice, dialysis center, bariatric center, outpatient health counseling

Choice Week -

1 week

One site – can be a repeat at a previous site

Appropriate qualified professional

Sports team, wellness center, private practice, eating disorder clinic, communication such as an online magazine or journal
