If you're a fun, caring, motivated person who loves working with teenagers, join us for one or two weeks at UW-Stout for the Summer STEAM Experience and the Junior STEAM Experience.

This year we are looking for Teaching Assistants and Counselors.  Learn more about these positions below.


Summer STEAM Experience

This year we are offering tracks in Science, Technology, Engineering, Art & Design, and math, featured in one week, June 12-16, 2022. Students entering grades 9 to 12 are invited to explore career paths with UW-Stout faculty experts in a campus setting. Camp activities and a college student panel will provide well-rounded experiences to highlight the possibilities of creative and critical thinking.

Junior STEAM Experience

A one-week camp for students entering grades 6 to 8 is set for June 19 - 23, 2022. Each day students will learn about a chosen track with hands-on activities, breaks, and time for fun activities.

Teaching Assistants

Responsible for:

  1. Assist and work closely with your faculty instructor - must have experience in that topic. See these pages for the list of tracks: Summer STEAM Experience, Junior STEAM Experience (position filled).
  2. Supervise campers during track instruction.
  3. Respond to student questions throughout the day.
  4. Serve as a role model, mentor, and leader.
  5. Report to the STEAM Outreach Program Manager any health or behavioral issues.

Time requirements are Monday - Thursday, June 12-16 from 8:30 am - 4:15 pm.  Pay is $300.

Responsible for:

  1. Lead an activity for up to ten campers
  2. Supervise campers during activities.  
  3. Serve as a role model, a mentor, and a leader. 
  4. Oversee the safety of the group. 
  5. Keep track of camper participation. 
  6. Assist with planning and implementing group activities. 

We are looking for people (18+) with experience leading activities and who enjoy working with teens.  Necessary safety training will be provided.  Option to teach for one or both weeks. Pay is $200, plus $8/hour for semester work (1-2 hours/week).

Past Job Opening Positions

Head Counselors

Head Counselors play an integral role in creating a fun and educational experience for Summer STEAM Experience campers. 

Head Counselors are responsible for the following:

  1. Leading the counselors during activities and training.
  2. Relaying messages to the Camp Director.
  3. Planning activities for camp during the spring semester.
  4. Acting as a counselor with its duties as well. 
  5. Head Counselors will provide input on camp activities, campers, staff, and general camp-wide issues during a daily counselor meeting. 
  6. Head Counselors cannot also work as teaching assistants.

We are looking for people (18+) with previous camp experience and a wide range of skills who can work collaboratively and form connections.  Must be available to work during the spring semester. Pay is $8/hour during the semester and $750 plus room and board for the week of camp.


Responsible for:

  1. Supervising campers during the entirety of the camp.
  2. Working closely with your team of 10-12 campers.
  3. Serving as a role model, a mentor, and a leader.
  4. Serving as the health supervisor to your campers. (Training will be provided.)
  5. Overseeing the safety of the group.
  6. Ensuring campers are at their scheduled activity on time.
  7. Assisting with planning and implementing designated camp activities as a team.
  8. Attending camp counselor training.
  9. Providing support as a mentor to encourage campers to engage in all activities.

We are looking for people (18+) with a wide range of skills who can work collaboratively and form connections. Summer STEAM Experience will run June 12-16 with staff training on June 11.  Pay is $600 with room and board at UW-Stout.
